🐾 A Big Hello to Our Lovely Irish Friends 🇮🇪

“Alright my pals across the water… Phil here! I’ve trotted in with some important delivery news, a waggy tail, and absolutely no biscuits left (suspicious).”

Because we’re a teeny‑tiny UK business (and I’m only a small pug with short legs), we’re not part of the EU IOSS system yet. That means parcels travelling from the UK into Ireland sometimes get stopped by the customs humans for a little chat.

Let me explain what’s changing - and how we’ve made things easier for you.

🗓️ What’s Changing From 1 July 2026

Ireland now requires VAT to be collected on all parcels arriving from outside the EU.

Since we’re not registered for IOSS (it’s expensive and not designed for tiny shops like ours), Royal Mail parcels are processed as Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU).

That means:

• Irish VAT is charged on delivery

• An Post adds a €3 handling fee per item plus hidden admin fees on top

• Customers may pay €20–€35 in extra charges

• One of our lovely customers previously paid an additional €22.11 (£18.88) in customs fees on top of £8.50 postage at the local postal office before the parcel delivery was even attempted

Upfront Cost: £27.43-£40.58 (depending on parcel size & items)

(What this actually means. The base shipping cost is £14.59. A charge of £24.20 will be applied to the base shipping cost. This amount is based on the contents, commodity codes, and declared value. Any misdeclaration may result in additional customs charges. An admin fee of £8.50 is included in this price and the total charges are less than what you would pay once it arrives in Ireland)
